I Am Me (A Guide to Being Authentic and Original)

fragile handle with careWhenever I find myself feeling stuck in comparison mode, like I need to move faster, do more, do better because I’ve compared myself to someone else and in my mind I’ve fallen short and self-doubt sets in…

When I find myself being pulled by external obligations and expectations…

And, when I feel scared to step forward and simply do something “my way”, I turn to the incredible quote by Virginia Satir (below) to remind me that it’s absolutely our natural truth to be authentic and original. And, it’s absolutely okay to need a reminder once in a while. After all, we are human ;)

I am Me.

In all the world, there is no one else exactly like me.

Everything that comes out of me is authentically mine, because I alone chose it.

I own everything about me: my body, my feelings, my mouth, my voice, all my actions, whether they be to others or myself. I own my fantasies, my dreams, my hopes, my fears. I own my triumphs and successes, all my failures and mistakes. Because I own all of me, I can become intimately acquainted with me. By so doing, I can love me and be friendly with all my parts.

I know there are aspects about myself that puzzle me, and other aspects that I do not know — but as long as I am friendly and loving to myself, I can courageously and hopefully look for solutions to the puzzles and ways to find out more about me.

However I look and sound, whatever I say and do, and whatever I think and feel at a given moment in time is authentically me. If later some parts of how I looked, sounded, thought, and felt turn out to be unfitting, I can discard that which is unfitting, keep the rest, and invent something new for that which I discarded.

I can see, hear, feel, think, say, and do. I have the tools to survive, to be close to others, to be productive, and to make sense and order out of the world of people and things outside of me. I own me, and therefore, I can engineer me. I am me, and I am Okay.

Start Where You Are

red running trackIt’s really easy to beat ourselves up for the things we wish we did differently in the past or the success we wish we had today. We can waste a lot of time with that mind junk and negative self talk can’t we! ;)

But… when we ever so slightly shift our attention and allow ourselves to accept the reality of where we are right now we become empowered to take action.

A common limiting belief many entrepreneurs experience stems from the idea that we should be able to do it all and figure it out ourselves.  (You know… “solo”preneur)

The inevitable mistake that follows  is forgetting to tell the people we already know

1) what we are doing, and

2) how they can support us

or in other words… to ask for help.

“You’ve got to ask. Asking is in my opinion, the world’s most powerful and neglected secret to success and happiness.” ~ Self-made Multimillionaire and Philanthropist, Percy Ross

So, here’s what I want you to do…

Go through your address books, holiday card lists and membership rosters to see how many people you know that aren’t yet aware of your business. Start reaching out to them in what ever ways feels comfortable to you… this could be with cards, letters, e-mails, or phone calls and let them know about what you do and areas that you are looking for support.

And here’s a tip… instead of just ASKING for help, whether it’s referrals, advice, introductions etc… remember to approach it from mutual benefit perspective. Find out how you can help others and watch how what goes around comes around.

“Start Where You Are” is one of five essentials of being a successful woman in business online that we discussed today on our first Gold VIP Strategy call for IAWBO, the International Association of Women in Business Online.

The call was fantastic and we are just getting started! At the very least I do recommend getting your FREE Starter Membership right now ;) http://iawbo.com
